Will Sandy Slope and Huntley participate in the Extended Day Learning Program? |
The Appleton Area School District offers high-quality, sustainable out-of-school time learning opportunities and programming for students. These programs are provided through partnerships with the Appleton YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley (BGC). Site coordinators are located at each school to create vital links between the student's school hours and non-school hours. Sandy Slope will have before and after school programming provided by the YMCA. It will also have transportation available to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley in Appleton in addition to onsite YMCA programming. Registration for this program will open in May. Learn more about the Extended Day Learning Program here. |

Does my family need to apply for School of Choice to attend Sandy Slope? |
School of Choice, or in-district open enrollment, allows a student to attend a non-charter school outside of their neighborhood school attendance area but within their resident school district. If you live outside the attendance area of the selected school, you will need to apply for Open Enrollment through School of Choice (In District) and complete the process. The application will open on February 1 at 8:00 a.m. and close on February 28, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Notification of School of Choice Open Enrollment status will be sent on April 4, 2025, via US mail. Additionally, all families must complete the required annual AASD student registration, which begins in July. |

If my student attends Sandy Slope, what middle and high school will they attend? |
Sandy Slope is a feeder school to Einstein Middle School and Appleton North High School. |
If we apply for School of Choice to Sandy Slope will they be able to go to Einstein Middle School and follow their peers? |
Yes, students follow the same middle school pattern aligned with the elementary school. |
Will Sandy Slope Elementary School offer open enrollment for students outside the district? |
Yes. The process for nonresident parents to submit open enrollment applications takes place in February (between the first Monday in February and 4:00 p.m. on the last weekday in April). Absolutely no late applications will be accepted. Find more information here |
When will Sandy Slope staff be determined, and when will this information be shared with families? |
Decisions on staffing and hiring, including which staff members will remain at Huntley and who will transition to Sandy Slope will begin in February. Please note that confirmed staffing decisions will not be released until August, just before the school’s Meet and Greet event. Even at that time, staffing may not be finalized and changes can still occur based on student enrollment, student needs, etc. |
When will transportation, including busing, be determined and shared? |
The District is currently working on busing and Safe Routes to School plans. Your responses to the Intent to Attend survey will help inform these decisions, allowing us to provide more detailed information about busing at a later date. |
I live in Sandy Slope’s attendance area, but I applied to an AASD charter school. If my student does not get into that charter, what do I need to do? |
Charter school application results for the 2025-26 school year will not be available until March 7, 2025. If your child does not get into the AASD charter school and you live in the Sandy Slope attendance area your child would be assigned to Sandy Slope. If you plan on going to Huntley or another AASD non-charter elementary you would need to do the School of Choice (In-District) open enrollment. |
Hypothetically if we apply through School of Choice for open enrollment for Sandy Slope, and are accepted for our student(s), what happens with their younger siblings? |
All students, including siblings, will need to apply for open enrollment through School of Choice if choosing to attend a school outside of their neighborhood school. |
